■RACE "2025 NGK Spark Plug All Japan Super Formula Championship Round 1 & Round 2"?

In a nutshell, it's a race to determine the "fastest driver in Japan!"

'2025 NGK Spark Plug All Japan Super Formula Championship Round 1 & Round 2'

The "Super Formula" is the highest and fastest formula car racing series in Japan.

Since there is no performance difference in the vehicles, tires, and engines used in the race, it is an exciting race that combines speed, skill, and strategy.

Now, let's explain in more detail.
What is a "Formula" car, anyway?
Formula cars are lightweight vehicles with minimal unnecessary parts for speed, such as exposed tires and no roof over the driver's seat.

In contrast, "box cars" have roofs and doors like regular passenger cars, and the tires are also covered by the body. For example, the machines in "SUPER GT" fall into this category.

What is "Super Formula"?
"Super Formula" is the top-tier and fastest formula car racing series in Japan.
Looking at the Course Records at SUZUKA CIRCUIT, the fastest is F1 at 1 minute 27.064 seconds, followed by Super Formula at 1 minute 34.442 seconds. The Super Formula machine "SF23" has speed second only to F1 machines, and talented drivers gather to engage in high-level competition.

The history of the domestic top formula began in 1973, and it will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2023.
This is a series that has been ongoing for over 50 years and is attracting attention worldwide.

What are the rules of Super Formula? What are the highlights?
Official Qualifying (QP=Qualifying Position): This is a time trial to determine the starting position (grid) for the final race. In this qualifying session, you can see aggressive driving purely focused on speed!

Final Race: In the final race, the timing of tire changes and fuel refills can determine the outcome based on the team's strategy!

This tournament features a "two races per event" format, with qualifying rounds on Saturday and finals on Sunday. In 2025, it will be held across all 7 events and 12 races in Japan, with the annual champion determined by the total points earned in each race.

Tire Change: You must change tires at least once during the race. Remarkably, the tire change is performed in an average of 6 seconds. Since positions can change during the operation, pay attention to the refined movements of the pit crew (vehicle maintenance staff) as well!

Overtake System (OTS): Using OTS temporarily increases the speed of the car, but it can only be used for up to 200 seconds in a single race. Once used, it cannot be reused for 100 seconds.

Point System: Winning earns 20 points, 15 points for 2nd place, and 11 points for 3rd place, with points decreasing as the rank goes down. 10th place earns 1 point, and those in 11th place and below do not receive any points. Points are also awarded in qualifying, with 3 points for 1st place, 2 points for 2nd place, and 1 point for 3rd place.

Tire changes during the race and the use of the Overtake System (OTS) greatly influence the outcome.
The timing of when to pit and whether to use the OTS are key points of strategy between the driver and the team.

■TICKET "Which ticket should I buy?"

To watch a race event, you need to purchase a "ticket" for that event.
However, there are various types of tickets, so many people may say, "I don't really know which one to buy even after looking at the ticket list..."
So, let me introduce tickets recommended for those who are watching SUPER FORMULA for the first time and for beginners.
Are you watching SUPER FORMULA for the first time?

No doubt about the general admission ticket!

By the way, the D seats, where you can watch the technical driving at the famous "S-curve" and "reverse bank" of SUZUKA CIRCUIT, are recommended!

Additionally, each admission ticket includes access to the SUZUKA CIRCUIT for two days on March 8 (Sat) and March 9 (Sun), as well as "race viewing" and "unlimited rides on park attractions," so you can also enjoy the attractions during the breaks between races.

■ITEMS "What kind of clothing and items are good?"

Last year at Suzuka during the same period, there were scenes of snow flurries...

We have prepared two recommended outfits, so take a look for reference!
As the race approaches, be sure to check the weather forecast and the expected temperature for the day!
Still a bit chilly (temperature below 10°C)
  • (1) Hat
Focus on warmth! Since the sun can be strong during the day, items with a brim are recommended.
  • (2) Jacket and Bag
If it's still a bit chilly, it's recommended to use inner layers made of moisture-absorbing and heat-generating materials. Choose a thick outer layer as well. If it unexpectedly gets warm during the day, you can simply take one layer off.
The neck area is important. Be sure to prepare scarves, stoles, and neck warmers.
A backpack that frees up both hands is recommended. It is also convenient to have a smartphone shoulder bag or waist pouch for easy access to your phone.
  • (3) Gloves
Gloves that allow you to operate your smartphone while wearing them are recommended.
  • (4) Bottoms
Comfortable and warm pants are essential.
  • (5) Shoes
In any case, wear comfortable shoes that you are used to. If there is a chance of rain, waterproof ones will be more comfortable.

Items to Bring

  • (1) Mobile Battery
If you're watching for a long time, you'll start to worry about the battery, so make sure to prepare a fully charged spare battery.
  • (2) Knee blanket
Since you will be sitting outside for a long time, it is convenient to have something that can be folded and easily fit into a bag.
  • (3) Binoculars / Opera Glasses
You can clearly see the distant circuit vision, leader tower, and pit work.
  • (4) Kappa Poncho
For rain protection, a raincoat or poncho is recommended as it takes up less space than an umbrella and keeps both hands free. Even if it seems like there won't be much rain, it's a good idea to have one ready just in case the weather changes suddenly.
  • (5) Plastic Bag
Useful for storing towels and clothes that have become wet from sweat or rain. It is also helpful in other situations, so let's bring several that are as large and durable as possible.
  • (6) Seat Cushion
Since long periods of sitting are expected, let's bring a portable folding chair.
  • (7) Towel
Items that are especially useful on rainy days. Larger ones with hoods are also helpful for sun protection and warmth.
  • (8) Cairo / Portable Heater
Disposable or battery-operated ones are fine. Let's bring the type that lasts as long as possible.
  • (9) Cash
Although cashless transactions are progressing within the venue, there may be instances where shopping or payments do not support the digital payment methods you have on hand in unexpected places.
  • (10) Radio with Earphones
The live commentary inside the venue will also be broadcast on Suzuka's FM radio station "Suzuka Voice FM 78.3MHz," so if you bring a radio with earphones, you can listen to clear commentary anywhere.

If it is a little warm (temperature above 10℃)
  • (1) Hat
Even in early spring, there are days when the sun is strong, so it's better to wear a hat. A wide-brimmed hat is recommended.
  • (2) Jacket and Bag
If the temperature is on the higher side, long-sleeve shirts are also an option, but in that case, make sure to bring a long-sleeve shirt that you can throw on in case of emergency. A backpack that leaves your hands free is recommended. Additionally, having a smartphone shoulder bag or waist pouch that makes it easy to access your phone is also convenient.
  • (3) Bottoms
Comfortable pants are a staple. If the temperature is expected to rise, a long skirt is also an option.
  • (4) Shoes
In any case, wear comfortable shoes that you are used to. Sandals are not recommended even if the temperature is high. If there is a chance of rain, waterproof shoes will be more comfortable.

Items to Bring

  • (1) Mobile Battery
If you're watching for a long time, you'll start to worry about the battery, so make sure to prepare a fully charged spare battery.
  • (2) Long-sleeved jacket
It can get chilly in the morning and evening, so it's recommended to have something ready to wear just in case.
  • (7) Towel
An essential item for wiping sweat on hot days and rainwater on rainy days. A larger one with a hood is also useful for sun protection and warmth.
  • (8) Sunscreen
Even in early spring, there are days when the sun is strong, so be sure to apply sunscreen thoroughly before going out. Don't forget to bring some for reapplication on-site.
  • (9) Cash
Although cashless transactions are progressing within the venue, there may be instances where shopping or payments do not support the digital payment methods you have on hand in unexpected places.
  • (10) Radio with Earphones
The live commentary inside the venue will also be broadcast on Suzuka's FM radio station "Suzuka Voice FM 78.3MHz," so if you bring a radio with headphones, you can listen to clear commentary anywhere.

5:30 PM "Return Home"

Various events and talk shows will be held after the final race, so it's easy to lose track of time, and before you know it, the sun has set... This is a common experience among race spectators. It's especially important to be cautious when you need to drive home after having a great time. The phrase "The race experience isn't over until you safely get home" is often shared among fans. Let's cherish our souvenirs and memories, and head home safely.
